Trooper Francis MacMahon WWI

We are fortunate to have obtained permission to reproduce the following account of the War experiences of one of our Newry European War army recruits.

Phillip Tardif, grandson of Francis MacMahon has his own dedicated website at www.northirishhorse.com.au, built in Frank’s honour.

Francis Joseph Aloysius MacMahon was born on 2 August 1894 and grew up in Newry’s Downshire Road area.

Better known as Frank (or later just "Cobber" to his Australian grandchildren), he joined the North Irish Horse in October 1914 and served through the War, seeing action in France and Belgium on the La Bass
