Sean Rooney, Pianist

Sean Rooney, a GCSE student at the Abbey Grammar School earned a standing ovation in the Arts Centre for his piano recitals during the Young Musicians (Newry Chamber Music) Concert.

Sean began to learn piano at the early age of five years, under Colm Murphy of Mayobridge. At just eleven he moved to the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin to study under Dr John O’Connor and Colma Briscou. 

 

Sean has experienced much success athe Feis Ceoil, Dublin and in 2007 took first place in the RCC’s NI Young Musicians Competition.

 

In 2007 and 2008 Sean participated in the Clandeboye Festival, reaching the final in his first year. There he took lessons from the acclaimed Belfast pianist Barry Douglas.

 

Sean currently studies under Dr John O’Connor and Dr Peter Tuite at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
