Midsummer Concert 2010

Last night’s concert was – as predicted -supurb !  The Italain quartet Quartetto Indaco (actually one Italian, one Japanese-Italian, one Irish and one Moldovan) excelled in both traditional and contemporary classical music.  But …

… the real eye-opener of the night was Newry’s own new young string  nonet Vivace Violini.   Nine violins, two men (Niall O’Flagherty and Connor Masterson) and seven ladies – Ann Speed, Amy Rooney [a talented composer also, no less and granddaughter of my meadow friend Hugh Poland] Joanna Shields, Bronagh Keenan, Rosie Ferguson [daughter of Bobby and Eileen] Louise Bell [daughter of Mary and the late Declan] and Emma Mastertson – making their debut as a group.

I cannot wait for their next performance!

On 19 June in the Arts Centre Newry Chamber Music presents their midsummer concert "Histoire du Tango" featuring Morgan Szymanski on guitar (a world champion on the instrument, I am assured) and Elizabeth Cooney on violin.
