I'm just back from dragging the family over to Clare, Newry and Camlough and had a great time. Since I hadn't visited in many years, your site had helped keep it fresh in my memory. Great job and many thanks,
Frank

I like some info on the blacksmiths forge in Water St. We use to watch the smithy shoe the horses there in the fifties.

I left Newry many years ago. Recently I met up with an old friend. We both seemed to remember a toy shop called Hodgets. I was wondering if anyone else can remember it.

I would like to k now more information of Newry district families related to my Mother. Namely McKee's of The Commons, Newry. Jemphrey of Bessbrook. Warnock of Tullyvallen, Mallon Auctioneers. And a Senator Joseph Fisher, Solicitor of Sugar Island.

Hi Raymond Little, I saw your letter in the Guest Book, I would be a cousin of your mothers, who I believe was May Sharp, and my Grand-parents the Balmers lived above where your grand-parents lived, your grand-mother was my Aunt. My maiden name was Myrtle Balmer, my father Bob Balmer. Looking forward to hearing from you. I have been in Canada sine 1972.
McCrum's
Have finally tied down our McCrum's. Robert and Elizabeth (nee Irvine) live on Mountain View Street, in the early 1900's or so. One of their sons, George Albert, lived for a time on Fountain Street, in Bessbrook, about that same time. He married a Lucy Quinn.

Hi Santanta, I remember that video from a few years ago - it was released as a commercial video and my Auntie has a copy of it.

You are good craic, Santanta but there you go, again, ''sucking up to Ed.''

While posting the downright daft "Ballyholland Air Raid" and "Eejit News" on Youtube I stumbled upon a truly remarkable archive of video of old Newry. I have exchanged messages with the person who posted it and the history is amazing. He/she is posting it on behalf of a friend who bought it from a charity shop in Glasgow. The footage is sufficiently important that it should be preserved for future generations. If Ed forgives me for bouncing you all to Youtube; please check it out. The poster uses the pseudonym "bloodandsnatters". I recognise "Big Michael Connell" but others will have a field day spotting people. Also --who is the guy with the walking stick. This is a serious post and NOT a Santanta windup!

Hi I,m a bus driver in Newry and I get to see at first hand the traffic mess in Newry on a daily basis Theres a lot of talk about a southern bypass and a bridge over Narrow Water to help with the situation,While nobody see's the white elephant in the room.
The carpark in railway ave,the potential car park at the old"RUC"station on cathern st,the waste land at north st flats and a massive carpark at the customs clearance site at Damolly.we dont need a new road or bridge we need a new council, have they not heard of park and ride?

Pete "Carr" who lived in Boat St. most of his life was a well-known and very well-read individual. For most of his life he was inflicted with the surname Carr. The correct spelling of his name was KERR. Tuberculosis was the cause of his amputation although many stories and yarns have been related to this disability through the years. If there is any cause to doubt the authenticity of the surname I refer you to his headstone in St. Mary's cemetery.
