Just to add further tribute to Michael Gallagher. My mother Mary whose photo Jim White has submitted and I were onlyn talking about her time in gallaghers shop serving her time as a tailor. The skills she learned are still with her today. It is only when you think of the thriving community that was North Street with the Gallaghers,Doorleys and other businesses that the terrible decision to demolish it was so wrong. Michael Gallagher was as was stated by Jim and seconded by my Mother a gentleman and a wonderful Tailor.

RIP M Gallagher (see ED's obituary of him on Home Page).
I remember that shop very well. Do you realise that in the photo he is pressing material using a "Goose" while the material is on a "Donkey"? (If I continue I risk blowing my cover!) RIP.

I stumbled across this web site from my home in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is delightful. I was very pleased to read the articles by my uncle, John Haugh. Those and the photos brought back many fond memories of some 30 years ago.

My father, Gerry Cunningham, died peacefully last Saturday. he was proud to be a Newry Man. This gentle, kind, Christian man worked all his life in the Newey Mineral Co. I would love if someone knew any stories about him.
Thanks

Sub ed. There is a lovely old picture of "stooks" (not hay stacks)taken in the fields near Rafferty's house down Longfield and published in "At Slieve Gullion's Foot" by Michael J Murphy. I presume you know what "stooks" were? Do you remember "buck rakes"?
