JC, good post mate and much appreciated. Yes, my first thread was tongue in cheek and if any offence was taken then I apologise unreservedly as it was certaintly not intentional.

However, as it was my first post perhaps a 'ticking off' or warning should have been issued by Ed rather than an out and out banning and the deletion of my username. Had this happened, I would have been able to explain to Ed that the thread was started in jest and that I felt I could contribute threads and posts containing interesting topics and inviting reasonable and healthy debate. Surely this is what a forum should be about.

Regarding the use of the term Internet Facists, this was said simply because I felt I was being singled out for harsh treatment, sent packing without reason and that Ed was acting as judge, jury and executioner without hearing my defence.

I also felt i was being shunned for not painting a whiter than white picture of Newry. Let's face it, Newry (or anywhere else for that matter) is not a perfect place and has its flaws. These flaws should be allowed to be highlighted in an open forum.

Finally, i am disappointed to be banned but insomnia is the only thing that keeps me awake at night. Also, apologies once again to anyone offended but i hope it was taken in the manner it was intended.

JJ, why not pack your tent and head for a more aggressive discussion group? Your very first post was very provocative even tho' I assume it was tongue-in-cheek. Ed. does all the hard work to run the site and we are all GUESTS here, with no 'rights', so that makes the misuse of the term 'fascist' ridiculous - you perhapps don't know what the word really means, and are using it as a childish insult. We all poke a lot of fun at each other, but it's understood that poking fun is what it is. For all you know, some of the contributors are taxi drivers, for example, so your comment becomes an insult. This is a site for reminiscence and word-play and nostalgia, and I don't know the real identity of a single contributor. What I do know is that I can see no point in your signing up again if your intention is simply the posting of bile. Use your imagination and writing skills in a positive way, elsewhere if necessary! To repeat: none of us has any more right to contribute to the Editor's site than we have to enter his home.

Just to let Liam Duggan know that A .Barton took his leave of St Paul's a few years ago. He was glad to leave to explore other things. still playing away and giving great entertainment in various venues. Barton still possesses a great sense of humour and zest for life. Will tell him the next time Isee him about you reference, Best of luck to you and sure that Dick would say the same.

In your "Dad Reaches Out" article I couldn't help but notice the similarities to Brian Friel's "Philadelphia, Here I Come".

The only way SB knew how to reach out was to say, "Gut an salt them fish!".

Looking for Elizabeth O'Hare.
Taught Spanish with her in Leeds at Notre Dame and then went to her wedding in Barcelona. Unfortunately lost touch when we moved from Leeds to the Selby area in 1993.I know that her family lived in Newry so could someone maybe pass this info around. Would love to get in touch with her.
Thank you
Sandra Hanna

AN OBITUARY
Some time back I kicked off a thread in the discussion groups on "The Abbey Girls". Sadly today I spotted an obituary to one of them who died a year ago. She was called Mary O'Hare when she was on of Jed's girls. If you Google ["Mary Breslin" obituary] you will get a link to Queen's University obituary page. By clicking on "Mary Breslin" you will see that Mary had an outstanding career, received a CBE, and was a prominent citizen in her adopted Derry City. She is commemorated in The Mary Breslin prize awarded to young entrepreneurs. Mary---Jed would be proud.
