The Fonz	Hi Ed, The default is great and I guess people just miss it out. Is it right that the poster rates their own message?

Editor	Did you happen to see - on local news last night - Paisley at the Labour Conference? I'm thinking of the name of the diner he used, prominently featured in the sequence? It was the Fookin Noodle Bar. Brought a smile to this old face, as I recalled the Bobby White as a foul-mouthed Paisley Tapes! Before they became totally out-of-hand, those tapes were really hilarious!

Santanta	Martin Payne, I had a look at the slideshow and you are not who I thought. HOWEVER, the face under the had just smacked me between the eyes. I couldn't remember his name until I read your words. I recall Jim as a truely nice guy who always spoke quietly in his own slightly hesitant way. Wherever he is I wish him well.

Martin Payne	Ian Armstrong Thanks for your information Ian, I looked it up, yes it does answer my question. It’s also quite a thought provoking poem, it makes you wonder why those in authority do some of the crazy things that they do. I mean you can’t eradicate history by changing a name. We should learn to live with it, and learn by it.

Ian Armstrong	Martin, re Postley Row, I came across a poem which seems to answer your question at a popular Mournes website (google it!).

Martin Payne	Santanta, Your description is not quite accurate, my hair colour was fair then. You can judge for yourself if you look at the Mad Earth Photos in the slide show gallery on this site. I am the guy wearing the fur coat and sunglasses. An interesting thing about those particular pair of sunglasses is that they were at one time, worn by a U S Marine Core helicopter pilot during his tour of service in Vietnam. I used to call them my “Da Nangs”, for obvious reasons. They were giving to me by a friend who had a Brother serving out there.

Santanta	I remember a teenage Marty Payne. Dark, straight, shoulder-length hair with a centre parting. Round face with a nose in the middle. Played guitar. Is that the same as Martin Payne?

Carmel	Irene, thank you for that response. I can well remember hurrying to unhitch a rope from a lamp-post (I'd been swinging on it) on seeing a police constable walking down Edward Street! Those were the days when we were afraid off the Law! Now the boot seems to be on the other foot - so to speak!

irene saunders	Carmel; you put into words my exact feelings on vandalism in Newry, but whatever solution anyone comes up with will not please everyone.I know in this day and age problems arise from alcohol and drugs, and I thank God my family are safe and well,having said this,where does it begin and where does it end. I notice here in Spain the Guarda Civil make their presence known which seems to keep our area peacful , we have the odd drunks and party animals in the early hours but then along comes guarda Civil and they soon quieten down,maybe they know something we don't. until an solution is found and as Carmel said,we can hope, my thoughts and prayers are with Newry.

John McCullagh	Thanks to our long-time friend of this site, John Macan for his moving poem on the recent death of his beloved mother. I have no photo of the lady and hope Sarah Hagan's portrait will suffice for the time being as substitute. Having lived with very serious illness for some time past (and ongoing) I feel an eerie affinity with John's feelings described in the poem.

John H Cully	Marty, you could be right and he may have been from Mayobridge. Anyway it was just a memory flash back that is of no real consequence.

Martin Payne	Editor: Postley Row, I seem to remember a little river running along the side of the street there, it flowed along the gable end of Scott’s shop. Correct me if I am wrong but I also seem to remember the Street name sign proclaimed it to be King Street. Now I know, that King Street was, where present day Francis Street is, but would the then Newry Urban Counsel have endowed Postley Row with the name King Street?

Badger	Excause my youthful ignorance, but where was Postly Row shown on your great collection of old Newry photographs???

John H Cully	Marty you were still in the band at that time - but it was the sixties/seventies so as they say if you remember that time perhaps you were not there - if you get my drift. He was tall and wore mod outfits. He came on the scene for a very short time and then disappeared again. Apprentice hippies what can you do with them. They could never keep up with the pace. There were quite a few of those if you remember.

Tony Fitzpatrick	Hello folks.Good to see the guest book back. It was missed. it was funn to be reminded of swimming in the river at Crown Bridge. I also recall that swimsuits were not always available for either boys or girls but that didnot stop us on a warm summer's day.Again good to see the familiar names back.
