I was interested to see the article on Charles Russell, Lord Chief Justice of England. I believe his son and a nephew were also Lords Justice of England, giving this family a unique place in English Legal History.

Re Mary Curran
I read with interest the connection with the White family and particularly the Canadian branch. My Mother Mary Whyte who married my father Anthony Fitzpatrick is a cousin of Jim White in Canada.I am sure that he remembers her well.

For New Readers: first page lists the three most recent articles, four of the most popular articles, and at the foot of the page ( More...) you can work your way through the past few weeks of stories. Down the left hand side are stories on themes. AND if you are seeking something in particular, type it in search... above. Happy Reading!

Her Husband John Stewart 1856>1942
Her Dad James McKee 1852>1942
Or my Mother Mollie Stewart of The Commons who went to Windsor Hill School circa 1937>1944. If anyone knows this family please contact me

Ed,
The two arches you refer to, in your article Bradshaw’s directory. I think that they might be part of the old mill race that used to flow parallel to the river as far as the stone bridge it then turned off along Water Street to the back of the dam.

Great site, a wealth of detail. It must have taken a great effort to compile all of this. Thank you

ED The answer to your question about the council and radiocarbon dating is very simple:- They can not legally refuse your request for the info without VERY strong reasons (like National Security for example). Contact them again and say that under Statutory Instrument 2004 No 3122 (C.131) you want the information. As a public body they are obliged to give it to you but they may charge up to £10. The Statutory Instrument is commonly known as the Freedom of Information Act. You are quite right when you say as a citizen the information is yours. It is. Demand it. Exercise your right.
