I am delighted to have stumbled on your site tonight as I was searching for a contact for the Clarke family formally of Clanrye Avenue, Newry. I didn't find a link but instead a fab photo of my mum Jean in Horrock's factory 55 years ago! Many thanks Maria

Hello Gerry Mc Evoy,
I see from your entry that you are from St Clares Avenue Newry. My mother was from there also. Her name was Monica Hart. Wouldn't mind knowing about her life in Newry.
Michael McKevitt
Does anyone have any information on the McvKevitt/ McClelland families from Newry. My father was William John Mckevitt and my Mother Rosemary(nee McClelland) of Derrybeg Drive, Newry

For the attention of jim dean, austin golding and all owners of 'zimmer frames'! It's strange that I can suddenly remember things that happened over fifty years ago and I forgot what I did last week!!Austin,I think Dermot Magee, like myself progressed to 'The Bucket' or as Micky Carlin renamed The Cavern. But back to the Frontier,I knew Tony and I think him and our fella, Teddy were mates.Jim, the skiffle group that were mostly HEADLINING at the time were...Christy Vint..Ali Callan...Mr McManus.......and on washboard..the incomparable..Hughie Kimmons, say no more.Mind you we had a heavy rock band ourselves...that was before heavy was established....the bass player we had is now a journalist for some obscure newspaper in Newry?....I love looking at the old pictures that Fabian took..and that was a lot....Keep the keyboard active.
austin golding
to jim dean n gerry mc evoy...some names from the frontier...RORY O CONNOR,DERMOT MCGEE AND TONY MCGUIGAN spring to mind..i live in bolton and TONY does the north west irish circuit under the name TONY JAMES.met him many times along with JIMMY MCGIVERN aka JONNY STARR who also did the north west but is now back in newry.jimmy also was a member of the hilton with gerry black
Jim Dean
Yes Gerry I remember the Frontier on Sat. mornings. Gerry and Alan Black (and their sister) performed on that stage) Gerry of course went on to be the guitarist with the brilliant Hilton Showband. Then there was all the Skiffle groups with washboards and tea chests with a broom handle and cord for a bass. Does any names come to mind? Happy Days eh?

Hello Jim Dean, thanks for the reply and the info about Big Pat,a true ambassador and lovely quiet man.He was in my class for probably all my schooldays,Gerry(Mungo)Devine and myself,Raymond Poucher,Noel Curran,Kenny McMahon,we were practically stuck together, thet's over fifty 'months!' ago.You just lived within spitting distance from the lovely Frontier,do you remember the singing contests that were there on Sat.mornings? Tell me if you do,I've got a lot to ask you.Over.
Jim Dean
Hi Gerry Mc Evoy, no I wasn't in Big Pat's class, he was a year ahead of me but I did know him and all his family. I did meet him over here in Essex many years ago (look up my story on this site "Meeting Big Pat Jennings") Unfortunately it was the time he was playing for The Arsenal ugh! (I'm a Spurs man)
Gerry McEvoy
I can't possibly rate any of the entries, because five is too low!!!watch your head going out. Was Pat Jennings in the same class as Mr James Dean? If the answer is yes, then he can proudly boast, that he was in the best class that ever existed. Period. Thanks for the journal, very good. Gerry McEvoy.......St. Clares Avenue.

Hi there Tom Wharton, yes I worked in The Satelite (after school) with those pretty girls. I also remember Chucky Eddie's poultry shop. As for the barbers, well I was in the same class as the son of the then owner. My classmate was Gerry (Mungo) Devine who incidently gave me my very first "Beatle" haircut.
