This night week, at 8 00 pm in the Carroll Gallery of the Hollywood Arts Centre, our regular contributor Sean Maguire will launch his latest book of poetry.

He has graciously allowed us to print a few selections here on Newry Journal.

This first is called Mind Games.

Linen Hall Square:    an age ago!

Each year the body count doubled ...

It was as if no-one was troubled,

by the ‘troubles’;

heads buried in the sand,

grief flooded our divided land.

I am tired of the rhetoric and mind games

I want all our fears and hidden tears

exposed to the open sky beneath naked flames.

We can never return to the dark ways

of bombs, bullets and funeral days.
