Deirdre
McAteer won the Best Actress accolade.
AND
the Adjudicator’s Special Prize went to the whole Newpoint Team for their joint
teamwork over music, set and costume.
Newry
Journal’s heartiest congratulations go out to each and every one!
You
have brought us great credit and renown.
AND
your success may well lead to Athlone and the All-Ireland Title again.
WELL
DONE !!!
Newpoint’s
huge cast was a little disappointed over last Saturday night’s results from Ballymoney
and Derry, although it achieved a very
creditable THIRD place in both venues.
Among
the honours won in Ballymoney was a Certificate for the accompanying music, a
mention for Fergal White AND the award for most ambitious play.
The
list of honours in Derry was much longer! Indeed the Adjudicator raved over the
performance leading many to believe it had won. Then, on learning there were FIVE more performances to pick up the points
necessary to reach the Ulster Finals, she commented,
‘You
won’t be NEEDING a win here, then!’
Denise
Hughes won the top award for best stage management: Laurie Hodgett was named Best Actor: Deirdre McAteer was Best Actress: the cast, for the killing of Beckett, won
Best Moment of Theatre. The play came
just third!
Never
mind! The points gained will come in
handy for Belfast.
Dublin's
result will be crucial to Athlone (All-Ireland) hopes.
