Perhaps John Clements was 'sleepless in ..' when he emailed the following to me, from Seattle, Washington, in the early hours! I thought it interesting enough to post, especially alongside this photo!
You know, I'd completely forgotten about those steps to the right there!
Anyway, here's John's message!
Our family moved from Belfast in 1939 to live in one of the six semi-detached houses up off the Camlough Road on the righthand side before you get to the Egyptian Arch.
At that time, the houses were surrounded by farm land and were accessed from the road by a lane which ultimately would take you to the Bessbrook viaduct. We lived there until 1952 when we moved back to Belfast. My father worked for the Inland Revenue.
I was wondering if those houses are still there?
I have lots of fond memories of my early years in Newry and the general area. I attended the Model School and the Newry Grammar School
For your information my wife and I and our family immigrated to the US in 1967 and currently live in Seattle, Washington.
Does anybody remember this family?
It is a very long time ago, but there might be someone!
