By
this time many of the town’s modern public housing estates had been built and
many were rehoused to The Meadow, Dromalane, Derrybeg
Park, Courtenay Hill, Hennessy Park
and Barcroft Park. Others moved into Linenhall
Square to take their place. Among them named here are the McCabe’s (John
was instrumental in the recent successful Reunion
celebration), Woods, Fegan, Griffin etc.
Still
others moved within Linenhall
Square, such as Dickie Rodgers, now living in Church Street.
Thomas
at Number 19 was father to Patricia Grattan, by far the best singer ever to
emerge from Newry (Peader Cowan not excepted).
John
Casey was father to Charlie, Oliver, John, Eric and the rest. He was the old caretaker of the Barracks
before it was all converted for modern housing.
