Set
in the mysterious landscape of the bogs of rural Ireland, Carr's lyrical ‘By
the Bog of Cats’ is a timeless play which tells the story of Hester Swane, an
Irish traveller with a deep and unearthly connection to her land.

Tormented
by the memory of a mother who deserted her, Hester is once again betrayed, this
time by the father of her child, the man she loves.
On
the brink of despair, she embarks on a terrible journey of vengeance as the
secrets of her tangled history are revealed. Marina
Carr is one of the most promising of Ireland’s new young breed of
playwrights. In recent years Newpoint
performed her ‘Portia Coughlan’ to great acclaim.
This
performance of “Bog of Cats” by Ferns Dramatic
Society from Wexford is the opening offering in this year’s Lislea Drama Festival on Saturday night at 8.00 pm in the Old
Schoolhouse Auditorium.
Nightly
admission is £5 and season tickets are £27.
You
are strongly advised to attend. *********************************************** Shoot the Crow (Owen McCafferty) is performed this Sunday night at 8.00 pm by the Backburners of Co Tyrone. It is a rich, full comedy set on a Belfast building site. Funny, Belfast's Clarence Players offer the same play in Newry Town Hall on the penultimate night of Newry Drama Festival (Friday 14 March).
