There was a son one time was all for putting his father away, saying he was done and no good only for eating!
So they argued about it but it come to the whipping of crutches and he was for away.  The son was leaving the father a piece of the way, seeing him off the place.

They come to this big stone sticking out of the ditch.

‘I’ll sit on this stone awhile,’ says the old man,

‘for when I was leaving my father away, he asked to sit awhile on this stone.’

Well, that stirred something in the young lad all right and he got to thinking.

‘You’re far enough!’ says the son.  ‘Come on back!’

Perhaps this story is equivalent to the modern saying

Be good to your children.  They choose your nursing home!’
