I trust our readership will forgive me an excess of hubris this fine morning, for I have two things to celebrate.
First, my darling granddaughter Naomi yesterday achieved a very creditable SECOND place – against very still opposition, at Warrenpoint Feis in piano.
Naomi was up against girls and boys years older than her, yet still triumphed!
Indeed the only competitor to top her performance was a Quigley , Blinne Ni Coigligh – niece of the famous professional Pianist much lauded on these pages, David Quigley of Newry Chamber Music. My heartiest congratulations to that young lady and to her mother Sinead and her proud grandfather, Joe. To be numbered in such exalted company is credit enough. I am so proud of Naomi (pictured!)
Naomi is the same age as Newry Journal. The average ‘blog’ website lasts a year. We are about to enter our EIGHTH year and still our popularity rises steadily.
This month – the shortest of the year and thus the most difficult in which to set numbers records – we top, for the first time, the magical FIVE MILLION hits per year!
This is roughly equivalent to the whole population of the Republic of Ireland.
That feat – of course – is down to you.
Thank you so much!
