Thursday week is midsummer’s day and, as usual Newry Chamber Music is hosting a classical concert in celebration!
Newry Film Club is screening the last film of the season next Wednesday night, 1st June, at the usual time of 8.00pm in Newry Arts Centre.
Sunday week (22 May) is the next Quigley Concert, when Newry Chamber Music presents The Schumann Quartet in the beautiful surroundings of Slieve Gullion Courtyard, Dromintee.
From this time of year on, our overseas visitors – and returned emigrants – will be here on holiday. You might need reminding of the venues of the traditional music sessions : that is, where to find good traditional music, sing-songs and excellent company.
Stagefright Theatre Company of Omagh will present ‘Key for Two’ at Lislea Drama Festival tomorrow evening (Wednesday 2 March) at 8.00 pm).
You have to give great credit to the Quigley family for their ongoing efforts to present to the great Newry public the best of music in as varied a selection of settings as feasible and across all communities.
Lislea is a beautiful townland just outside of Camlough in South Armagh that has spawned one of the most talented and successful amateur Drama teams in the whole of Ireland.
The best traditional sessions are now in Rostrevor (weren’t they always?) and we had a great time last night in the Corner House in the company of Alfie and Mary Corr, Liam Farrell and Matthew and Claire McGrath. There were a few singers from the floor, as always. Quiet night.
Midnight Mass at St Catherine’s (Dominican) Church in Newry this year of 2010 will prove to be very special indeed.
