The Country Boy is a comedy-drama set in the small Irish farmhouse of the Maher family, inhabitants of Mayo.  It tells the story of Curly, 25, who still lives at home with his parents, Tom and Mary Kate. But Curly dreams of following his older brother Eddie to the U.S. in pursuit of success, even if it means leaving his sweetheart, Eileen Tierney.  

Only upon Eddie's first return home (with wife, Julia) on vacation, are truths revealed of hardship, alcoholism, a troubled marriage, homesickness, and regrets.

We have just three more days and nights of drama left before we at Newry Journal return to our regular features!

Just back from Rosemary!  I like to stick my neck out as a pundit so ........

for my money this was the best production of the week so far!

Closely followed by Bart (The Big House)  ... and Newpoint (Making History).

Still I have great hopes from tomorrow night's show when

Dundalk Theatre Workshop offers Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

Then it's Shoot the Crow on Friday night, the play that recently won at Lislea.

The final night is another Brian Friel : Philadelphia Here I Come with the excellent Silken Thomas Players. 

Perhaps the best has yet to come!  Who knows ????
