Lislea Drama : ‘Bog’ and ‘Crow’

Set in the mysterious landscape of the bogs of rural Ireland, Carr’s lyrical ‘By the Bog of Cats’ is a timeless play which tells the story of Hester Swane, an Irish traveller with a deep and unearthly connection to her land. 

Tormented by the memory of a mother who deserted her, Hester is once again betrayed, this time by the father of her child, the man she loves. 

On the brink of despair, she embarks on a terrible journey of vengeance as the secrets of her tangled history are revealed.
 
Marina Carr is one of the most promising of Ireland‘s new young breed of playwrights. In recent years Newpoint performed her ‘Portia Coughlan’ to great acclaim.

This performance of ‘Bog of Cats’ by Ferns Dramatic Society from Wexford is the opening offering in this year’s Lislea Drama Festival on Saturday night at 8.00 pm in the Old Schoolhouse Auditorium.
