Vandalised birds’ eggs
Our busiest and happiest times along the Derrybeg River (really a tiny stream) was in the summer months for it was then that the sprickleys were running, the hawthorn was in bloom and strongly perfumed and Corr’s field was awash with buttercups.
‘Keep the ‘hate’ in ye”
Occasionally town boys who were not afraid of horses could earn a penny or two for looking after the animals for farmers whose stay in the town of Kilkeel would be brief, or who wished to retire to the nearest hostelry.
St Catherine’s Church Newry
I am wont sometimes to let my attention stray from divine worship as I contemplate the beauty of the architecture in my local church St Catherine’s (The Dominican).
Corr’s Sweet Shop
From the time that I had enough teeth to deal with a caramel, there was a sweet shop next door to our school. It was run by the Corr’s family.

Biddy Magee
As I intimated earlier, my Primary 2 year is a blank in my memory, probably because it was fear-free.
Biddy Magee, the Primary 3 teacher was a different proposition.
Lily McCaul

No one remembers all their old classmates’ names but Mary has done her best. The other half is to come and then I will reproduce a smaller version of the joined photos.
Early nuns’ experience

It was almost two weeks after the murder, before McGladdery, who was continually being followed, cracked and led the police inadvertently to the scene of the septic tank just a few hundred yards from his home where he had secreted the blood-stained missing clothes and other items from the murder scene.
First Day at School
My thanks to old friend and Meadow man Mark Byrne (formerly of Ballinlare Gardens, now living with his wife (daughter of Peter and Phyllis McCann of Derrybeg Drive) and children in California, who sent me an encouraging email this week.
Pearl: the murder details are revealed
The pathologist gave detailed evidence about the injuries inflicted on the young girl Pearl Gamble during life – the description of which we will curtail for the sake of propriety.
