Mimivirus merchants

Denizens of a shadow world

No more alive than dead

But ever-present: indestructible;

Mammoth replication machines

Identical with

The product they peddle

And fix now to that flat surface:

The old message, in all its ancient purity

In search of a new host’s messenger RNA

To sell again the untainted dream …

Mindful always of the most recent betrayal

Of those who now stride the corridors of power

And must be brought down …

I saw them at close of day …
