Yesterday Wednesday 9 September was a big day for Newry U3A when we finally got to meet our esteemed President, Her Excellency Mary McAleese.
The occasion in 1985 was my daughter Judith’s seventh birthday party. Besides my son (back, right) I recognise only Sarah (with balloon), daughter of Dear Ed and mother of Naomi.
Occasionally we feature a school year group from the past and wonder/reflect on what role in life each former pupil plays today. For the latter, we are heavily dependent on our readership. Please fill in the blanks below by emailing the answers to us.
I have had a few friends recently enquire about this long demolished street in town. The lady in the picture below may have been going home that day in 1953 – or perhaps taking a short-cut to Hill Street through the Cathedral grounds.

No ‘Wash Ballock Point’ but a few amusing road signs for your entertainment. The ‘foot’ one was at a mosque. Invisibility refers to ‘poor visibility’. Work out the rest yourself.
We are just returned from a City Break in Edinburgh. You may be surprised by the photos at what you can do in Edinburgh City. Of course we were there for the Festival – but we had time for other activities – as you can see.
An excellent Railway Bar seisin last night starred local talent supreme, Aisling McAteer (formerly of Ballyholland) and Micheal Mullen – both of whom, in my opinion, deserve to make the big time. Mickey Kinnane as usual, held it all together.
