Before veil of grace descends

We, on Newry Journal, are very grateful to John Macan who has contributed many of his original poems to this site.   John’s work is copyright – as indeed is all original work on this site!   John has published in the past – and continues into the present – so we are especially grateful for his generosity towards Newry Journal!

Before the veil of grace descends

and soothes this aching heart

I know that I will love you once again.

I will cry my pain to the stars

from the distant mountain peaks

and lay myself open to the morning dew.

I will bathe my torment in raging waters

and in my delirium

I will curse this hell over and over.
