In this the 60th anniversary of The Meadow housing estate we continue our occasional series of reminiscences of growing up there in the long-ago!

‘Not unlike the season we are presently enduring, that Spring of 1957 had so far been wild, wet and windy.

The Bullets Competition: conclusion

So I had learned a fair bit about road Bullets from the previous Sunday and had met some great characters from Newtownhamilton and An Port Mor.  I had grasped the simple essence of the sport but there was more to learn.

Shoot the Crow

“Shoot the Crow” by Owen McCafferty – tonight’s offering in the Town Hall -is a sad and hilarious play about a day in the life of four Irish tilers on a building site.  


The Country Boy

Tonight (Wednesday) Rosemary Drama Group of Belfast present John Murphy’s (1929-1998) The Country Boy , a play which reflects on the social problems of emigration and rural life in the late 1950’s.


The Big House

The Big House is an early twentieth century play by Stuart Lennox Robinson who was an Irish dramatist, a poet and a theatre director with the Abbey Theatre. 

In Flame

Tonight’s (Sunday’s) play in Newry Drama Festival is In Flame by Charlotte Jones and it is a funny and sparkly play about lust, hope and dreams. 

The Bullets game

I was a little unfair to AA: if you look carefully you will see the ‘bullet’ still in the right hand of this acrobatic player. Anyway here is AA’s story!
